Port of Kissamos, Chania, Crete
The renowned Balos lagoon and the deserted pirate island of Gramvousa are world-famous destinations and the best places to visit in Greece.
With West Cruises’ private cruises, you can do so with style and on your own time, far from restrictive schedules and crowds, leaving you free to enjoy the majesty and beauty of the route.
Our journey begins at Kissamos Port (Kavonisi Kissamos Port), atop one of our luxurious boats. We will set sail with the Rodopos peninsula at our side, and we will enjoy the view of the mountains and the sea as we turn Spatha cape, Crete’s northernmost spot. From there, we’ll head straight towards the Gramvousa peninsula.
We will pass close by the island of Wild Gramvousa, with its fitting name and its rocky, steep coastline, before dropping anchor at our first destination, the famous Tame Gramvousa.
Once the lair of pirates and rebels, the deserted rocky island stands out for its flora and fauna, which have led into its designation as protected by Natura, and its old Venetian castle, which you can visit during our stay. You will see the church of the Madonna of Thieves, patron of the island’s corsairs, and you will enjoy the incredible view, from the nearby island of Antikythera to the northwest to the gorgeous Balos to the south, which you will see up close.
Do not forget to take a dip at the blue, crystal clear waters of the island’s beach, where you will also be able to explore the old shipwreck, Gramvousa’s signature attraction.
Then we make a short cruise to Balos lagoon, a true heaven on earth. Lose yourselves in the beauty of the area, with the turquoise waters, the white and pink sandy beach, and the imposing mountain of Geroskinos, swim in the warm water or just lie back for a tan under the rays of the Greek sun.
For the entirety of the trip, our skippers and personnel will be at your disposal. Relax and enjoy the journey, sample fresh fruit and drink and refreshing juice.

Few beaches in Greece are as well-known and advertised as Balos. The turquoise lagoon surrounded by white and pink sand is among the places every traveler of Crete should visit.
The nearby island of Gramvousa adds a very special angle to the experience. Wild natural beauty, a nice little beach with a shipwreck and the Venetian fortress offering a great view of the area make for a truly unique locale.
